Datamar Surveys questioned California voters on a variety of issues regarding the state of the economy and political sentiments. The findings reveal an embittered and weary electorate and one that is looking for alternative ways to reform the state’s political process and turn the economy around.

The economy is the number one issue of concern for the voters topping budget cuts by a two to one margin. Responsibility for California’s problems was evenly divided by the 794 respondents to the poll. 30.9% gave responsibility to Democrats in the Legislature; 25.7% to Special Interests; 18.4% to Governor Schwarzenegger; and 17% to Republican in the Legislature.

Trust in the state government is at 10.5%.

Voters overwhelming are seeking reforms. The poll offered four reforms. The Top Two Open Primary, which will appear on the June ballot, received 56.9% support. Reforming the initiative process followed with 53.5% support. Reforming rules in the Assembly and Senate got 49.4 support and reforming Proposition 13 received 43.3 support.

End the "2/3 rules," thus the tyranny of a conservative minority

We should take more certain steps toward solving this chronic problem by ending the anti-democratic legislative "2/3rds" rules for budget and revenue matters so we can start closing the tax loopholes enjoyed by corporate interests and the wealthiest among us. The California Democracy Act will eliminate the means by which a small minority of right-wing legislators -- who put the interests of corporations and the very wealthiest among us over the vast majority of those of us who call California home, who place the budgeting process into a state of gridlock year after year, and who block funding for education, social services and infrastructure we all need -- have done just that for more than thirty years now. Our proposition is simple, just fourteen simple words long: "All legislative actions on revenue and budget must be determined by a majority vote."
