“Vice Presidential candidate Joe Biden in a recent visit to the Bay Area a few days ago endorsed Abram Wilson, the Republican Candidate running in the sharply contested 15th District Assembly Race in Contra Costa, Alameda, Sacramento, and San Joaquin Counties. This seat, the most contested legislative district in Northern California, has a 2% registration difference between Republicans and Democrats – Biden’s endorsement could put Wilson over the top.”
And – if you believe that – I have some swampland in Florida to sell you.
The thought of the liberal “Joe Senator” endorsing mainstream Republican Wilson is about as likely as the thought of Republican VP Nominee Sarah Palin endorsing union-backed Joan Buchanan in this contested race.
Yet, a mailer sent out this week from a group called “Create Change – Support Joan Buchanan Independent Expenditure Committee” suggested that Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin was indeed supporting Buchanan, a Democrat.
Confused?? Well, you should be!
The mail piece – sent to decline-to-state voters in Assembly District 15 – depicts Palin pointing to what the fictitious mailer calls “the most qualified woman on the ballot”. You guessed it – she’s pointing at Joan Buchanan. It’s only when you open up this cleverly-deceptive tri-fold that you see Joan’s backing by unions organized by teachers, nurses, and environmental groups – strong Democrat constituencies – as well as the California Labor Federation. These groups want nothing to change in the California legislature – thus their support of Democrat Buchanan – and attempt to fool voters to boost the Democrat super majority status in our legislature.
Whatever happened to truth in advertising??
The great irony of this mailer – and we’re still laughing – is that when Gov. Sarah Palin was in the Bay Area on October 5th – one of the candidates running in Assembly District 15 was at her leadership meeting in Silicon Valley.
If you guessed the Mayor of San Ramon – Abram Wilson – the Republican nominee for District 15 – you’re correct.
Not only did Mayor Wilson meet personally with Palin, he stuck around to greet some thousand guests at her Silicon Valley event – including E-Bay’s Meg Whitman and Cisco’s John Chambers – strong supporters of McCain-Palin.
Mailers like this just prove what we’ve always known in politics – you can fool some of the people some of the time.
If you vote in the 15th District, don’t be “tricked” this Halloween. Support Abram Wilson – someone who has served with distinction as the Mayor of San Ramon. Wilson has balanced budgets and put in place a “rainy day fund” so the city runs on a surplus – not a deficit.
That’s the change we need in Sacramento – someone who believes in living within our means who will make sensible choices for his district – without increasing our taxes.
